Due to the intimate salon atmosphere we ask kindly that you do not bring any additional guests to your service. This includes significant others, children and friends.
Hair must be down, detangled, completely dry and in a styled wash and go no more than two days old. Please wash, condition + FULLY detangle your hair and style as normal with your normal styling product you use for wash & gos and let it dry. ( Airdry, diffuse or sit under a hooded dryer).
This allows us to see your natural curl pattern and helps us take into account each curl's shrink facto when completing the dry Curl Bar Cut.
*Please avoid the use of heavy butters and oils
*Please do not come with your hair in a bun/ponytail, twist out, braids etc and avoid putting it up at ANY point before your appointment. If hair is in any of the mentioned above, it can and will negatively impact the cut due to the curls being stretched out.
*Please do not arrive at your appointment with brushed out curls. Only detangle when the hair is wet with conditioner not when it is dry.
*If hair is not properly detangled it will result in an additional fee if detangling process exceeds 20 minutes.( 20 minutes or less is typically how long it will take your trained stylist, to thoroughly detangle even with high density hair). The detangling fee will be $10 per every ten minutes.
Yes, there is street parking that does not require a meter. Please allow additional time to find parking before your appointment. Sometimes spaces are limited.
If you do not primarily wear your hair in it’s natural state or want to work towards doing so I do not recommend a curly cut.
A curly cut is a dry cut for your natural curl pattern, we do not guarantee that your hair will translate into a straight hairstyle. However, it is possible that your curly cut may be ok when you wear it straight but always keep in mind, you have different curl patterns with different shrink factors all over your head that will fall completely differently when it is in a stretched state.
However you wear your hair 90% of the time, is how you should get it cut.
We recommend if you are going to wear it straight to add some type of curl or movement to your style.
The same skill and technique is used no matter how little or how much we take off, therefore the pricing is still the same. During the consultation portion we will determine your hair care goals, desired look, and how much you are and aren’t comfortable with taking off. I will never take more than what a client allows and is comfortable with.
We currently do not offer color services but sometime in 2022 Taylor will be taking returning clients only color appointments.
Heat damage results from excessive hair straightening or blow drying that does not involve chemicals. It damages the hair shaft and changes its original curly form. While heat damage alters the pattern of the hair, the curls can possibly be revitalized to some extent depending on the severity of the damage.
Chemically treated hair has been treated with some form of chemical that permanently and irreversibly changes the pattern of the hair. This cannot be undone and the only way to get rid of it is to grow it out completely or cut it out.
No, we do not have a cancellation list. The best way to get a sooner appointment is to check the site frequently for openings or follow our Instagram page @thecurlbarboston. We post all cancellations via our IG stories. Appointments will then be bookable online on a first come first serve basis.
A curly cut is a cutting technique where you cut the hair in its natural state on dry defined curls. We suggest this type of cut if you wear your hair in its natural state 90% of the time. This allows us to see the curls so we can take into account the different textures/ shrink factors on the head and customize a shape best for you. We have been trained in multiple cutting methods such as, Cut it Kinky, Rezo cut, Deva trained and Curl by Curl cutting techniques.
If you are willing to cut off ALL of the chemically treated hair, also known as the Big Chop, yes. Otherwise, we do not work with transitioning hair as those types of treatments are permanent and irreversible.
We also do not offer alternative styling options such as braids, twist outs, rod sets etc. If you come to your appointment and have any of the treatments mentioned above and are not ready to cut it out completely. The service will be refused and you will be charged the full service amount.
An in depth consultation is included with all services. For any questions you have before potentially booking an appointment please email hello@thecurlbarboston.com
Yes, your deposit will go towards your service amount and the remainder will be due after your appointment. Deposits are non refundable.
Yes, If interested in a before or after hour appointment please email hello@thecurlbarboston.com with the service and date you are interested in. All before/ after hour appointments will require an additional $125 fee on top of the regular service price.
Yes
Outside of chemically treated hair, heat damaged hair, or color treated hair, there are instances when clients have damaged hair due to back to back “protective” styles, braids, or neglect.
While we will work with you and do everything we can to ensure maximum hydration
and hair health we do ask that clients keep in mind that one appointment can unlikely undo years of damage.
Together, we will create a plan to get you back to healthy hair by walking you through step by step of how to care for your hair, the dos & don'ts , and customize a routine/ product guide for you.
*Please note that all new client services come with a treatment with the Spa mist but most treatments are not formulated to permanently fix excessive damage. While they may help, please keep in mind treatments are intended as a luxury for healthy hair or hair that has only experienced minimal trauma.
This depends on the current state of your hair. If there is minimal heat damage and your hair can still be worn in a wash and go, yes. If your hair suffers from excessive heat damage, please keep in mind that one appointment will unlikely be able to undo the damage. While
The Curl Bar will always use our best efforts to revitalize your curls, clients must keep realistic expectations based on the current state of their hair and know that it can take multiple appointments and haircuts to get you to your goal.
Please note, if your hair has excessive heat damage and you are not ready to cut it or won’t be comfortable wearing it in a wash and go style because it does not curl to your satisfaction, we recommend that you do not book an appointment.
ou can always book with either stylist, however you would be considered a NEW client with the stylist so please be sure to book one of our new client services and not return.
Plan for around 2 hours for the service itself, but this does not include dryer time. If your hair is especially dense or long, expect the process to take longer.
